For over 30 years, Interested Citizens of Abilene North (ICAN) has been a dedicated force in the Carver/Stevenson community, leading efforts in volunteerism, advocacy, community development, education, and youth engagement. As a proud neighborhood association, ICAN has consistently worked to uplift and empower residents while preserving the cultural legacy that defines Abilene. We focus on developing high-quality mixed-income housing, promoting economic development, fostering community growth, and preserving local history and culture.
At the heart of our mission to develop, maintain, restore, and enhance the Carver/Stevenson neighborhoods in Abilene are two historic treasures: the Curtis House Cultural Center and the Dr. William Butler House. Recognized by the Texas State Historical Society, these landmarks are more than historic buildings – they are vibrant symbols of our community’s enduring spirit, culture, and resilience.
